ILMINSTER GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL OLD GIRLS ASSOCIATION

Introduction :

Although it may hold wider interest, this section of the website has been created primarily to give those Old Girls who have lost touch a means of re-establishing contact.

Note: the whole website has been restructured - please report glitches to the Webmaster (click here to e-mail).

New :

                - Diary Date - Next Re-union Day - 17th Oct 2015 !

The Ilminster Girls Grammar School:

The former Boys Grammar School was taken over for use as the Girls Grammar School in 1879. The Girls Grammar School closed at the same time as the Boys School in 1971.

More introduction and history will be provided in due course - meanwhile more details on the Buildings and Ilminster Town are available in the Old Boys Section!

The School ~ An overview of Ilminster Grammar School: its history from 1549, its buildings, their setting in the town, and some noteworthy characters.

The Town ~ Another website - gives details of Ilminster, situated in the South of the English County of Somerset. ~ ( Use your 'BACK TO' button to return to us here!)

The Final Curtain - 1971 !

The IGGS Old Girls Association:

Formed in 1940 the Old Girls Association continues to meet bi-annually, opportuning the company of other Old Girls and acknowledging the entity which contributed so much to their formative years - Ilminster Girls Grammar School.

In spite of our school having closed in 1971, we have a membership of 150 Old Girls who enjoy keeping in touch, exchanging old memories and current news. We meet twice every year, usually the last Saturday in April for lunch with maybe a speaker, or a special celebration if appropriate as in 2015, and then on the third Saturday of October for lunch and the AGM. For some years now we have met at Broadway village hall, which suits us well in terms of size and convenient parking.

Approximately six weeks before each reunion we send an invitation and news letter to all our members. If you would like to receive details when we next send them please 'get in touch' - click on the link below and your details will be forwarded to the Association Secretary.

More introduction and history will be provided in due course - but, personal contributions are always welcome ! (See what the boys have recorded.)
